Means of transport for pastoral care
MIVA is a relief organisation of the Catholic Church. In this way, it also supports church projects that serve pastoral care. The parish areas are often as large as an entire diocese in Europe. Public transport is non-existent in the remote areas. Priests and nuns are therefore dependent on well-functioning vehicles to reach people in the far-flung villages. Pastoral projects can be, for example:
- Bicycles for catechists
- Motorbikes for priests and nuns
- Cars or off-road vehicles for parishes and monasteries
Bicycles for catechists are probably one of the most classic pastoral MIVA projects. Catechists are lay church workers who support the priests in their daily tasks. Without the help of catechists, many priests would not be able to cope with the many tasks in the usually very extensive parish areas. Catechists hold Word liturgies, care for the elderly and dying, support people and listen to them. They perform their service completely free of charge. The MIVA bicycle, apart from making the long journeys easier and shorter, is above all a token of appreciation for their valuable service for the benefit of the people.
